Kentucky Derby Festival

After Thunder Over Louisville, the festival continues with the Great Balloon Fest, the Great Steamboat Race, the Pegasus Parade, and the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon.

The Kentucky Derby was first held in Louisville in May of 1875. It is a horse race held annually on the first Saturday in May. Bourbon shows up during Derby season with a traditional mint julep cocktail (bourbon, mint, sugar and ice) as the beverage of choice for the race.

Louisville Slugger

Louisville Slugger Field is home of the Louisville Bats baseball team. The field was named by Hillerich & Bradsby, the company that made the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bat. The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is located just a few blocks from the stadium downtown. The world’s largest baseball bat stands outside of the museum’s entrance.
